Force One, the specialised commando unit of Maharashtra Police, has been deployed in Nagpur during the winter session of the State Legislature following a ‘specific threat’ about an attack in the orange city, a senior official said today.

“Force One has been deployed after receiving specific threat about a terror attack in Nagpur,” a senior Force One official told PTI.

The Legislature session began in the winter capital today.

“Force One personnel will not be doing any normal policing duty in Nagpur. They have been sent there in view of a specific threat,” the official said.

Force One personnel, equipped with bullet-proof vests, AK-47s and other gadgets, have been deployed to counter any threats from terrorist groups, the official said.

Force One has been raised on the lines of the elite National Security Guards (NSG), after last year’s 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Headquartered in Mumbai, Force One will shortly have its units in Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad and Nasik.
