The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC), which makes recommendations for forest clearances, has accepted the Saxena committee report on the Vedanta mine project in Orissa. The Ministry of Environment and Forests is expected to take a final decision on the project soon.

The four-member Saxena committee, led by National Advisory Council member Mr. N.C. Saxena, recommended that clearance be denied, citing environmental violations and an adverse impact on the Dongria and Kutia Kondh tribals.
