Encounter on between security forces, Maoists

A fierce encounter took place on Sunday night between security forces and Maoists in the forests bordering Khunti district of Jharkhand, police said.

The encounter has been going on for the last several hours but details are yet to be received, they said here.

The forces from the State police, CRPF and the anti-Naxal Jaguar Force have been in action against the Maoists in the forests near Bundu, about 40 km. from here.

Kundan Pahan, accused of masterminding the beheading of Special Branch officer Francis Induwar in October last year, leads the proscribed CPI (Maoist) in Khunti.

Meanwhile, DGP control room ASI, R.C. Ram said the control room had no information that the security forces busted a Naxal camp during the encounter.

Coal mine torched

ANI reports from Latehar:

Suspected Maoists torched a coal mine in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Saturday. “Around 1 a.m., the Maoists came, and they started putting all machines on fire. They left after setting them ablaze. They also beat up people and warned that without their order, no work should be carried out,” said Vinod Bhukhte, a security guard.
