Edward Kennedy was a true American hero: Roemer

August 26, 2009 08:27 pm | Updated December 17, 2016 03:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer remembered Senator Edward Kennedy as a true American hero, a friend of India and a strong voice for the poor.

In a statement here on Wednesday, Mr. Roemer recalled his work with Edward Kennedy on issues such as healthcare and remembered him as a tireless worker on behalf of the poor, the homeless and the voiceless. “He championed their cause with a lion’s courage and tenacity. The poor have lost a champion for their cause. The Senate has lost a legislator of historic effectiveness. The U.S. has lost one of its truly great public servants. The world will miss his humour, hope and humility,’’ he observed.
