Desperate bid to catch flight lands father and son in custody

A desperate bid to catch a Frankfurt-bound flight from Ahmedabad to be in time to see the last of a dear one, has landed a father and son duo in the police custody.

The Ahmedabad police control room received an anonymous phone call that a bomb had been planted on the Air India’s Frankfurt flight which was set to explode as soon as the plane took off. The police immediately alerted the airport authorities and emergency security measures were put into operation. The search yielded nothing.

The police then traced the hoax call to Mahendra Patel in Nadiad. He had made the call as he and his son were getting late for the flight. His young grandson, whose family lived in Frankfurt, had died of brain haemorrhage.

On reaching the airport, they turned back on seeing a ring of policemen surrounding the plane. The police then caught up with them.
