A thick blanket of fog engulfed various parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday, affecting air, road and rail traffic due to low visibility, with mercury plummeting to three degrees celsius below normal.
Dense fog threw normal life out of gear as most of the flights in the region remained suspended and trains ran hours behind schedule, officials said. The minimum temperature hovered between one to three deg C below normal in the region, the Met office said.
Amritsar was coldest place in the region registering a low of 2.2 deg C while Narnaul in Haryana braved a low of three deg C.
Patiala shivered at a low of 3.2 deg C, three notches below normal.
The minimum temperature at Chandigarh was 3.6 deg C, followed by Ludhiana (3.7), Karnal (4), Rohtak (4.1), Hisar (4.4) and Ambala (4.5 deg C).
The Met forecasts further dip in temperatures in the next two days.
