A Delhi court is scheduled to hear the anticipatory bail application of TERI director-general R.K. Pachauri in the sexual harassment case on Thursday.

Mr. Pachauri, who has been admitted to the Fortis Escorts hospital at Okhla in South Delhi, has sought bail on medical grounds. The court has asked the investigating officer in the case to submit a report on his illness.

Mr. Pachauri has challenged the merit of the case, arguing that the charges are false as his e-mail and mobile phone were hacked. The Delhi High Court had earlier given Mr. Pachauri protection from arrest till February 23. The trial court later extended it to February 26.

Counsel for the victim Prashant Mendiratta had opposed Mr. Pachauri’s bail plea on Monday submitting that it was the prerogative of the police to call him for joining the investigation. He said the allegations against Mr. Pachauri were serious in nature.
