Senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee indicated on Sunday that the Congress party decision on the leadership issue in Andhra Pradesh will take time.

“Let the situation be brought under normalcy. The high command will take a decision at an appropriate time,” he told journalists reporters before the late Chief Minister’s aide, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, met him here.

Mr. Mukherjee, who arrived here from Kolkata on Sunday evening, said the party was fully aware of the emotional upsurge in the State following the death of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajsekhara Reddy.

“We know that there is emotional upsurge. We know that many people committed suicide and many people want [Dr. Reddy’s son] Jagan. All these issues will be factored in when the high command takes a decision.” When asked about how long the decision might take, he said: “I cannot say who will be and at what time [the decision will be made]. How can I say that now?”
