The India Meteorological Department will revise the normal dates for the onset of monsoon in different parts of the country in a day or two, its Director General, Ajit Tyagi, said here on Friday.
Releasing an update on the forecast for the quantum of rainfall expected in the current monsoon season, he said studies showed that there may be a need to revise the normal dates. For instance, he said, the normal date for Delhi may be revised to June 30 from June 29.
The changes would not have any consequence. Monsoon was a highly dynamic phenomenon. “There is nothing sacrosanct about the dates. They are only pointers. They are subject to a variation of plus or minus seven to eight days,” he said.
