A judicial first class magistrate court in Margao on Tuesday extended the police remand of former Goa Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco by three days.

The court upheld the plea of the crime branch of State police investigating the Nadia Torrado unnatural death case that they needed his custody in connection with the investigation which has reached a crucial stage.

Mr. Pacheco, booked by the police as prime suspect in the death case of his close friend, was initially remanded to eight days of police custody which ended on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ms. Sonia Torrado, mother of deceased Nadia, was released on a bail by a Sessions Court in Margao in south Goa on Tuesday. She was arrested on charges of destroying the evidence on Saturday.

Judge P. B. Deshpande directed Ms. Sonia Torrado to be available before the investigating officials when they asked her to do so.

Nadia died at a Chennai hospital on May 30 where she was admitted after she allegedly consumed poison on May 15. The police are investigating the case booking Mr. Pacheco for twin charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and abetting suicide.
