BJP Parliamentary Party chief L. K. Advani said though this Republic Day was special as it marked the diamond jubilee of the adoption of the Constitution, the common man is sad due to rising prices and the internal security situation in the country.
“Because of the potential of the nation, there is hope and confidence that in this century, India will stand in the frontline among the developed countries. But the aam admi is sad about the present and is especially worried due to price rise and security (issues),” Advani said.
He was speaking to reporters at the flag-hoisting ceremony at his residence.
Advani said there are still apprehensions about another 26/11-like terror strike in India.
“Those in power are not sure that such an event will not take place. Nor are the foreign countries sure about it (taking place again in India). Even our neighbouring country, which has a complicit role in such attacks, says we cannot confirm it will not take place,” he said.
“The Government should be concerned about this,” he added.
Advani also maintained that there was a need to look at the manner in which elections were held in the country.
“There is so much corruption, use of muscle power (in elections) and some people benefit due to this. The Election Commission should think about this,” he said.
The former Deputy Prime Minister insisted that EC and political parties should take a pledge and ensure that India becomes an ideal democracy.
