Chhattisgarh on Sunday asked the Centre to provide funds to meet expenditure incurred towards deployment of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) in the state to fight Naxalism.
“Chhattisgarh is a young and backward state that is already tottering under huge financial burden. I, therefore, request that the cost of deployment of the CPMF be met by the Central government...,” Chief Minister Raman Singh said during the Chief Ministers’ Conference on Internal Security here.
About anti-Naxal operations in the state, he said work towards converting a regular battalion into an anti-terrorist battalion had already been initiated. The battalion, he said, will be well-equipped and its personnel will be spread over all districts for acting according to the contingency.
“Naxalism is not a state-level issue in Chhattisgarh. It is a problem that has a direct binding on national internal security. The state is already spending huge sum of money on providing amenities for these CPMF battalions,” he said.
Along with the demand for deployment of additional battalion of Central Paramilitary forces, the Chief Minister also requested the 13th Finance Commission for a grant of Rs 815 crore for development of the police forces.
