Bidding goodbye to typewriters, the government announced on Saturday that it would test the typing skills for clerks as well as stenos on computers.

“(The) Staff Selection Commission has decided that tests for recruitment to the posts of lower division clerks and stenographers will be conducted on computer only,” said a statement by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Training.

The Ministry has decided to use computers even for periodical skill tests for clerks and stenos, it said.

“The step has been taken keeping in view the use of computer in day-to-day working in government offices. This will relieve the candidates from the burden of arranging their own manual typewriters at a considerable cost,” it added.
