The Central Bureau of Investigation is all set to take over the probe into the helicopter crash that killed the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and four others.
“The Andhra Pradesh government had made a specific request in this regard and we will take over investigations on Thursday,” a CBI spokesman said.
A CBI team will visit the crash site in Nallamalla forest, where the Bell-430 chopper of the State government crashed on September 2. The team would also check the log details of the Air Traffic Control in Hyderabad and Chennai.
The State government has also formed a two-member expert committee, comprising retired IPS officer and VIP Security expert M.R. Reddy and the former Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), H.S. Khola, to investigate the incident and submit its report in 60 days.
Though the Cockpit Voice Recorder was recovered from the site of the crash, it has not been decoded yet.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabita Reddy said though the case was being handed over to the CBI, the probe being conducted by the State Crime Investigation department would continue.
