The Centre has granted sanction to the CBI to prosecute Rajendra Kumar, former Principal Secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in an alleged graft case, a senior government official said on Tuesday. The Centre has declined the request of Mr. Kumar, an IAS officer, for voluntary retirement from service.
Mr. Kumar is facing corruption charges related to his earlier stint with the Delhi government when he held multiple posts, including that of Secretary, Information Technology Department. The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Mr. Kumar in December 2016.
“After careful scrutiny of the CBI’s request, the Home Ministry has decided to give its sanction for his prosecution,” an official said.
Through the Department of Personnel and Training, the Home Ministry, which looks after the administrative affairs of Delhi government, sent a report to the PMO informing them that a prosecution sanction has been granted against Mr. Kumar.
