CBI files charge sheet against Bhuta Singh son

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Wednesday filed the charge sheet against Sarabjot Singh, son of Bhuta Singh, Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, in a bribery case.

Ejaz Khan, CBI prosecutor told The Hindu on the phone that in all four persons were chargesheeted, including Sarabjot. Two accused, Madan Singh Solanki alias Madhu and Dhukh Singh Chauhan, had turned approvers.

Mr. Khan said Sarabjot is out on bail and would be present in court on Thursday. In July last, the agency had arrested Sarabjot for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. one crore from a Ramrao Tukaram Patil, in return for closing a case against the latter under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Sarabjot has section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 9 (taking gratification, for exercise of personal influence with public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against him.
