Bengaluru prepares for Sasikala’s arrival

February 15, 2017 12:11 am | Updated November 28, 2021 09:54 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Even as the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala and two of her co-accused to surrender forthwith before the trial court, the Bengaluru police have started preparations for her arrival.

Meanwhile, the administration wing of the city civil and sessions court in Bengaluru is yet to receive an official communication from the SC on the verdict.

From the prisons department to the city police, everyone went into an alert mode once news about the Supreme Court restoring the conviction of V.K. Sasikala, J. Ilavarasi and V.N. Sudhakaran broke around 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Though they did not get any official orders about her arrival till Tuesday night, they decided to remain prepared.

“Though Sasikala does not have Z-plus security like Jayalalithaa, we cannot take her arrival lightly considering the political developments in Tamil Nadu. We have been co-ordinating with our counterparts,” said a senior police officer.

Tight security

The Karnataka police expect her to come by road as the Aero-India show is in progress. “We are not sure how many people will come along with her. So we will be deploying hundreds of policemen to control the crowd and prevent any law and order problem. Last time section 144 was imposed when Jayalalithaa was brought here. This time we are not sure,” added the officer.

Convicts likely to surrender today

With the Supreme Court ordering that V.K. Sasikala, Elavarasi and Sudhakaran surrender in the trial court in Karnataka immediately, the AIADMK interim general secretary left the Golden Bay Resorts in Koovathur late on Tuesday. According to police sources, Ms. Sasikala’s advocates were waiting for a copy of the order. Intelligence agencies quoting AIADMK party leaders said the three would take a flight to Bengaluru early on Wednesday.
