The family of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in the sensational Batla House encounter exactly a year ago, alleged on Saturday that there had been a delay on the part of the government in giving them the compensation amount.
“I have met all the officers, ran from pillar to post….. But it has been of no avail. After the Mumbai terror attacks, almost all the families have received help from the government but we haven’t,” said Narottam Sharma, father of the late Inspector.
The gun-battle on September 19 last year in Batla House left the highly decorated “encounter specialist” dead after he was hit by a bullet fired by an alleged terrorist.
Two alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists were killed in the encounter.
“I miss my son”
“I miss my son….. But I am proud of him and his sacrifices,” said Devendri Devi Sharma, his mother.
A senior police officer said the Delhi government was processing an application by Inspector Sharma’s wife Maya for a one-time payment of Rs. 25 lakh, which is to be given to the family in the form of compensation.
On the first anniversary of Inspector Sharma’s death, All-India Anti-Terrorist Front chairman M. S. Bitta demanded appointment of a co-ordination committee to look into such issues.
Centre must act: Bitta
“Do you want the old couple to go and ask for their rights? It is the government’s duty to look after them.
“I urge the government to form a coordination committee,” said Mr. Bitta.
