Bardhan welcomes court decision

December 17, 2010 12:57 am | Updated October 17, 2016 08:36 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan has welcomed the Supreme Court's observation that it would monitor the ongoing CBI inquiry into the 2G spectrum scam, but reiterated the demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe.

He said the court “very correctly” took upon itself the task of monitoring the CBI probe covering various aspects since 2001 till date, but the CBI inquiry would indicate only criminality and the role of various players in it. “The inquiry should focus on whether the allocation was purposive, correct or benefited some major telecom companies involved in the drama. All this will be looked into by the JPC,” he said.

Mr. Bardhan, who spoke to journalists at the conclusion of the three-day party national council meeting, said a JPC probe would consider all aspects to ascertain what went wrong and suggest steps to avoid recurrence of such events.

The Left had decided to continue the demand for a JPC and carry on the agitation with a greater force in the coming days. Accordingly, rallies in association with like-minded parties were planned in major State capitals, starting from Hyderabad.
