BJP seeks replacement of U.P. officials

The BJP on Monday petitioned the Election Commission seeking replacement of the Chief Secretary, the Director-General of Police, the Additional Director-General of Police and other officials of Uttar Pradesh on allegations of partisanship. The EC is examining the memorandum. A party delegation comprising Union Ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu, Nirmala Sitharaman and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi met the Commission officials and submitted the memorandum that sought replacement of the officials, including the District Magistrates of Meerut, Firozabad and Rampur. The BJP alleged that during the recent family feud within the Samajwadi Party, in glaring violation of the service conduct rules, DGP Javed Ahmed intervened and mediated. “In full public view, he was chased by the rival factions of the Samajwadi Party,” the memorandum said. “The recent spurt in crime wherein anti-social elements have unleashed a reign of terror on behalf of the ruling party is evidence enough that the State authority vested with the responsibility of maintaining law and order is doing just the opposite,” it said. Thousands of families which migrated from Kairana and Muzaffarngar out of fear, should be provided security and arrangements made to help them vote, the BJP said. — Special Correspondent
