The BJP sees politics as a tool for socio-economic reforms and will work towards ending fear, hunger and terrorism in the country, party President Nitin Gadkari said today.

“I promise that the party will work for ending fear, hunger and terrorism as well as to make India a developed nation,” he said at a public meeting here in Maharashtra.

The meet was organised by local BJP unit to felicitate Mr. Gadkari and new State party President Sudhir Mungantiwar on their maiden visit to the city after assuming their posts.

Addressing the meeting at Nehru Ground, Mr. Gadkari further said he could become the BJP President because of the devotion of party activists.

India has only five really serious and important parties and amongst them BJP is the only one which thinks about the rebuilding of the nation, he said.

This is the party of activists and here, the party activist is more important than the party chief, he said.

Criticising the Congress-led UPA Government, Mr. Gadkari said the country is facing problems like Naxalism, security threat and farmer suicides due to bad governance and “wrong” economic policies of the ruling coalition at the Centre.

Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru are still to get punishment for their crime, but Gujarat police officers who encountered history-sheeters have been put behind bars, he said.

“China is encroaching on our borders and we are waving peace flag. Terrorism here is linked with the vote bank politics. Crores of rupees are being earned by corporates, traders and middlemen, while the common man is paying high prices for essential commodities,” the BJP chief said.

“More than Rs. 3 lakh crore had been earned by corporates and others in the commodity exchange. I had asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh some questions regarding this, but he has answered none.”

Mr. Gadkari said irrigation problems can be solved by including it in the concurrent list. “Problems can be solved and BJP will show how to solve them. For that, people should give blessings and power to BJP.”

Mungantiwar said BJP workers will soon hit the streets to oppose the proposed Sophiya thermal power project in Amravati as it would lead to displacement of farmers.

Alleging that the Congress-NCP ruling coalition in Maharashtra is working for contractors, he said the government has no time for common people.
