The BJP today demanded that Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, whose relatives are among the members of the controversial Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai, should resign from his post in the wake of the scandal.

“Chavan’s resignation should be accepted without delay and without wondering,” Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told reporters in Lucknow.

BJP General Secretary Ravishankar Prasad said offering resignation to Sonia Gandhi was not enough and the chief minister should quit owning moral responsibility for the scandal.

“Mere offering resignation to Sonia Gandhi is not not sufficient, Chavan should resign owning moral responsibility for the scandal,” Mr. Prasad told reporters in Patna.

“Chavan should immediately rush to the Maharashtra Governor and submit his resignation as it is a copybook case of nepotism and corruption,” he said.

Mr. Prasad also demanded a time-bound and comprehensive inquiry into the entire issue by a sitting judge of the apex court.

The BJP leader also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his alleged silence on the 2G spectrum scam involving Union Minister A. Raja.
