With reports of External Affairs Ministry having asked the government to foot bills of three months stay by two Union ministers in five-star hotels, BJP on Friday demanded that the government clarify who paid the bills and hinted it had information on it.

Hinting that the BJP had incriminating details on who made the payments for Mr. Krishna and his Minister of State Shashi Tharoor, both of whom stayed in separate five-star hotels for three months as they were awaiting allotment of their official residences, Mr. Prasad said the government should come clean on the issue.

“The Ministers made public statements that they had made private arrangements. The country is entitled to know why they tried to mislead,” Mr. Prasad said.

Stating that the Ministers had accountability, Mr. Prasad alleged “prima facie” they seem to have lied.

An English daily had reported that the External Affairs Ministry had written to the union Urban Development Ministry to pay the hotel bills of the two Ministers.

Mr. Prasad said if the government did not provide details of payments, it would come out with the details at an “appropriate time”.
