India has rejected senior White House Advisor David Axelrod ’s claim that the U.S. would not only “review” the implementation of domestic actions by India and China in tune with the Copenhagen Accord but would also “challenge” them if these goals were not met.
Union Minister Jairam Ramesh has shot off an email to Mr. Axelrod saying that his interpretation of the “international consultation and analysis” of unsupported actions was “unacceptable” to India and it went against the assurances given by U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Describing Mr. Axelrod as a “spin doctor,” Mr. Ramesh said his statement had been made under “domestic pressure” and was meant for the U.S. Congress and trade unions. “India need not worry about Mr. Axelrod’s statement,” he said. The gentleman was not even present at Copenhagen.
