INSAT-3D, a six-day-old weather satellite, has been coaxed into the desired geostationary orbit and is drifting towards its final slot, where it will be fully turned on in a week’s time. It had, however, blinked on Day 1, giving its masters on the ground some heart-stopping moments.
One of the two receivers on board, which link the satellite with the command centre at Hassan, failed irrevocably.
An onboard back-up is being used to connect with and operate the satellite, The Hindu has learnt.
