The Centre on Tuesday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam and fix responsibility among personnel of the armed forces and the Defence Estates.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony asked the agency to take up the case after going through a report the Ministry prepared with inputs from the Army, the Navy and the Defence Estates on the housing society at Colaba, Mumbai.
“The CBI has been asked to look into the circumstances under which the No Objection Certificate was issued and the possession of the land in question was relinquished,” even though there was shortage of land for the Army in Mumbai, a Ministry release said.
It said the CBI would also probe how far the housing society had met the commitments to the welfare of wives of dead war heroes/service personnel, as reports emerged that it was to have allocated flats for the families of the Kargil war martyrs.
