Four militants were killed by the security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Sunday.

A police spokesman said that on a tip-off about militants, a cordon and search operation was launched at Panzar in Shopian.

In the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved.

The deceased were: Rafi Hassan Mir and Suhail Ahmad Bhat from Shopian, Showkat Ahmad Mir and Azad Ahmad Khanday from Pulwama.

Police said Showkat had a long history of terror crimes since 2015. He was initially part of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Showkat was instrumental in the recruitment of the other deceased.
