4 CRPF jawans shot dead by colleague in Chhattisgarh

Another was injured in the incident at Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Four Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed when their colleague opened fire at them at a camp in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on December 9.  The incident took place at the Basaguda camp of the CRPF’s 168th battalion. Chhattisgarh sector CPRF DIG Ajay Singh and Additional IGP, Chhattisgarh Anti-Naxal Operations unit Devnath confirmed the incident. “It is true. It happened in Basaguda CRPF camp in Bijapur. Four CPRF men have died and one has suffered injuries. The accused constable has been arrested,” the DIG told The Hindu. According to some CRPF officials, the incident took place at around 5 p.m. on December 9 when CRPF constable Santh Kumar had a quarrel with CPRF Assistant Sub-Inspector Gajanand.

  After the quarrel, constable Kumar reportedly opened fire at his colleagues from his INSAS rifle in which five CRPF men got hit.  Four of them — Senior Inspector Vikey Sharma, Inspector Megh Singh, ASI Rajveer Singh and constable Sankara Rao — were killed on the spot and ASI Gajanand suffered bullet injuries.  ASI Gajanand was evacuated to Jagdalpur by a chopper and constable Kumar was apprehended, informed a CRPF official posted in Chhattisgarh.    Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh condemned the incident and expressed grief over the death of four CRPF men.
