The Army on Friday claimed it had killed three infiltrating militants in a fresh encounter in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, even as the police maintained that no bodies had been handed to it since the major operation began on September 24.
“Another attempt at infiltration was made early on the morning of October 4, in Gujjurtur area adjacent to Shalabato Sector,” a Defence spokesman said. “Army troops observed suspicious movement of infiltrating militants and, when challenged, a heavy fire fight ensued, resulting in elimination of three militants. Bodies of two slain militants have been recovered. The body of a third terrorist is observed lying just across the Line of Control along Kilpara Nar.”
Previously, the Army had claimed that 10-12 militants had died in the operation in Keran.
Police officials in North Kashmir confirmed receiving reports of three fatal casualties, but maintained that no bodies had been handed over to them till late on Friday. They said a police party had been called to the spot to take possession of two bodies, but it had not reported back till the evening.
