Preparing for the upcoming festive season, the Indian Railways is planning to introduce about 2,000 special trains between September and November.
About 600 trains will be run in September, about 1,000 trains in October and nearly 500 trains in November. Of these, nearly 1,180 trains will be added by the Northern Railways.
Last year, 2,094 special trains were run during this period, a Railways official said.
Every year, the railways run special trains on popular routes and also add additional coaches to existing trains.
According to a survey done by travel marketplace RailYatri, over 10 lakh travellers fail to get confirmed rail tickets everyday. The number is bound to go up during the festive season. According to data shared by RailYatri, there is a 40% jump in railway passenger traffic in the months of October and November alone.
