200 cr mining scam in Shivraj's hometown: Congress

The opposition Congress has alleged large-scale illegal mining in Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan's hometown and assembly constituency Budhni.

The illegal sand mining, being carried out on the banks of Narmada river, is harming the environment and causing a massive loss to the state exchequer, it alleged.

“A fact finding team comprising five of our MLAs has confirmed illegal mining worth well over Rs.200 crore in Budhni, primarily in the Nasrullahganj area,” leader of opposition Ajay Singh told journalists here.

“In six villages of Nasrullahganj, illegal sand mining is being conducted on 377 hectares as against the legally allotted 16 hectares. Massive royalty loss has been reported too,” said Mr. Singh.

The Congress has recently been leading a campaign against rampant illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh. It also moved a no-confidence motion-illegal mining being its chief component-against the ruling BJP government during the winter session of the vidhan sabha.

Recently, Janta Dal (united) MP Sharad Yadav had also alleged a massive mining scam in Madhya Pradesh, much bigger than the Bellary mining scam of Karnataka.
