A 105-year-old woman has become the oldest person to apply online for voter identity card.
Saraswati Jadhav, resident of suburban Andheri, applied for the card recently and it would be sent to her soon, an election official told PTI, adding she is the oldest person to apply for the card online.
Ms. Jadhav’s application has cheered up election officials in Maharashtra, worried over the low voter turnout in the state during the recent Lok Sabha polls.
“Her age was misquoted in the earlier card, so I applied online for correction and it was a very easy process,” her grandson Vinayak said.
“I took her picture and uploaded on the site and filled up other information,” he said.
Asked if she would vote, Mr. Vinayak said, “she always votes. Usually, we take her to the polling centre in an autorickshaw. She voted in the last Assembly polls in 2004,” he said.
Appreciating the efforts taken by her family members to opt for the easy way to get an online card, saving hardship like standing in a queue which she otherwise would have had to endure, the official said “Ms. Jadhav’s case should inspire others to go online and get voter cards”.
