Ministers to meet Hazare?

April 07, 2011 01:59 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:57 am IST - New Delhi:

With social activist Anna Hazare on an indefinite fast demanding that the government introduce a comprehensive anti-corruption bill, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday discussed with some Cabinet colleagues the issue. Indications emerged that one or two Ministers could be nominated to talk to Mr. Hazare.

Dr. Singh discussed the matter with some Ministers soon after the Cabinet meeting here, sources told PTI.

The general sense at the informal confabulations was that there was a need to defuse the situation that had arisen due to the fast-unto-death campaign launched on Tuesday, which is getting support from an increasing number of people, the sources said.

It was felt that one or two Ministers or representatives could be nominated to meet Mr. Hazare to discuss his demands and persuade him to call off his agitation, they said.

The timing of deputing the nominees was not clear yet.
