Swamy wants Sudhir Gupta reinstated

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has urged Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan to take appropriate steps to “set aside” the proceedings of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Board of Governors meeting that replaced Sudhir Gupta, Head of the Department of Forensic Analysis.

Just four days before the results of the Lok Sabha elections on May 16, the AIIMS Board of Governors met in New Delhi on an “emergency basis” to rush through the appointment of Dr. Gupta’s junior Dr. Moorty to take over from him, the BJP leader said in a letter to the Health Minister.

Prima facie, this suggested that this had to do with Dr. Gupta’s insistence not to doctor the final autopsy report on the unnatural death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of the former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, on January 17, 2014, Dr. Swamy contended in his letter. Sunanda was found dead in a New Delhi hotel that day.

“Kindly stay the proceedings of the [AIIMS] Board, and take necessary steps to review the circumstances, and set aside these proceedings in a manner you deem fit and proper,” Dr. Swamy said.
