Reacting sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Sunday at an election rally in Jammu accusing the regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir of trying to divide the country, former ally and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said, “The PM is misleading people by equating himself with the nation. Every Indian owes his allegiance to India not PM Modi. India is not Modi and Modi isn’t India.”

Opposition to move SC again for 50% paper trail verification

Leaders of major Opposition parties said on Sunday that they would approach the Supreme Court again to demand verification of at least 50% of the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The parties said they had raised the issue with the Election Commission many times, but it did not take the matter “seriously.”

Capt. Amarinder said that ruling Canadian Liberal Party’s knee-jerk decision was clearly aimed at protecting its political interests in an election year, which he said could have serious consequences for Indo-Canadian relations in the long run.

Jet Airways unions defer strike plan

Jet Airways pilots, engineers and cabin crew unions are set to jointly meet the airline management on Monday in what they term as “another attempt to get the airline flying.”

On Sunday, as the midnight deadline set by the pilots union for clearing pending dues and sharing details of the revival plan drew closer, the pilots body, the National Aviators Guild (NAG) said it had ‘reviewed’ the earlier ‘unanimous decision’ of pilots to stop flying from April 15, if demands remained unachieved.

Assange willing to cooperate with Sweden

Julian Assange would cooperate with Swedish authorities if they reopen a rape case against him but will continue to resist any bid to extradite him to the U.S., his lawyer said on Sunday. “We are absolutely happy to answer those queries if and when they come up,” Jennifer Robinson told Sky News television about the rape claims. “The key issue at the moment is U.S. extradition, which we have warned about for many years,” she added.

121 killed in Libya clashes: WHO

Fighting near Tripoli has killed 121 people since Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar launched an offensive earlier this month to take the Libyan capital, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday.
