Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Red Fort on the 73rd Independence Day of the nation and hoisted the national flag. Addressing those present on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the old arrangement in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh encouraged corruption, nepotism. PM Modi asks why Article 370 and Article 35A were temporary and not made permanent if these regions were an integral part of India. "The previous governments did not have the courage to do so," he says. "One nation, one Constitution," says PM Modi.  "This has become a reality."

5 police officers shot in Philadelphia

A Philadelphia Police sergeant said that five police officers have been shot in what’s still an active shooting situation in the city. Sgt. Eric Gripp tweeted on Wednesday shortly before 6 p.m. that all of the injuries are considered non-life threatening. He also said that the suspect is still firing and warned people to stay out of the Nicetown neighbourhood.

Facebook listened to users’ private conversations: report

Facebook has paid hundreds of contractors to listen to and transcribe snippets of users’ conversations, U.S. media reported on Tuesday. Facebook acknowledged the transcriptions, which were first reported by Bloomberg, telling the news agency in a statement that they were made with users’ permission, but that the practice has nonetheless been stopped.
