Polling begins for the third phase of 2019 General elections

Polling began on Tuesday for the third and largest phase of Lok Sabha  election  in 116 seats, including all constituencies in Gujarat and Kerala, with BJP president Amit Shah, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and several Union Ministers among prominent candidates in the fray.

The stakes are high for the ruling BJP and its allies as they bagged 66 seats out of these 116 spread across 14 States and Union Territories in 2014 general election, while the Congress and its alliance partners won 27, and the rest went to other opposition parties and Independents.

India issued alert to Sri Lanka on possible blasts

India had issued an alert to Sri Lanka in early April on possible bomb attacks at different spots in the island, including the Indian High Commission building, sources in Colombo and New Delhi said, pointing to a possible lapse on the part of Sri Lanka’s security agencies.

Gautam Gambhir, Vijender Singh in rival teams

The Congress on Monday released the names of all seven candidates for the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, while the BJP, which had renominated four sitting MPs on Sunday, announced the names of former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir and incumbent MP Meenakshi Lekhi from East Delhi and New Delhi seats respectively.

Former three-term Chief Minister and Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit is the party’s candidate from Northeast Delhi against Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari.

Sexual harassment allegations: Was offered ₹1.5 crore to frame CJI, says Supreme Court lawyer

An advocate on Monday filed a plea in the Supreme Court claiming he was offered up to ₹1.5 crore by a man identified as ‘Ajay’ to frame a “false case of sexual harassment” against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

Supreme Court lawyer Utsav Bains said the man, claiming to represent the former employee who has levelled allegations against Chief Justice Gogoi, had also asked him to arrange a press conference at the Press Club of India to ‘frame’ the CJI.

India on Monday signaled its urgency to resolve differences with China on listing Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, to substantiate the “Wuhan spirit,” emerging from last year’s informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in the central China city. In his opening remarks during “bilateral consultations,” visiting foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale who  arrived in Beijing on April 21  said that India and China should remain “sensitive to each other’s concerns”.

Hindustan Zinc aims to double silver production in five years

Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (HZL), the ninth-largest silver producer in the world plans to become the world’s second-largest global silver producer, after Fresnillo plc. by more than doubling its production in the next five years.

HZL, the only integrated silver producer in India, produces about 95% of India’s primary silver and 100% of the India’s integrated silver.
