Israeli soldiers on Tuesday killed a Palestinian militant, who allegedly helped plan a bomb attack on a Tel Aviv bus in 2012, witnesses said.

Israeli forces exchanged gunfire with Mohammed Asi, 25, in a village near the West Bank city of Ramallah after attempting to arrest him.

Asi then took cover in a cave outside the village. Israeli force launched an anti-tank missile or shell into the cave, destroying it and killing him, witnesses said.

Local Palestinians said he was a member of the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement.

An Israeli military spokeswoman in Tel Aviv said they were checking the details of the incident.
