The Israeli military says it has carried out a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip in response to renewed rocket fire. There was no immediate word on casualties from the strikes.

In a statement on Tuesday, the military accused Palestinian militants of violating a ceasefire and said it maintains “both defence and striking capabilities in order to address the renewed aggression”.

The airstrikes came minutes after Tel Aviv claimed that Palestinian militants fired three rockets into Israel, breaking a temporary ceasefire and endangering negotiations in Egypt over ending a month-long war between Israel and Hamas. Authorities said the rockets landed in open areas and caused no injuries.
