Five people were killed when gunmen stormed a government complex in the central Iraqi city of Samarra on Tuesday, taking dozens of employees hostage, security and medical officials confirmed.
The gunmen stormed the building after four suicide bombers blew themselves up at the entrance. The blast killed one government employee, who worked for the local election committee, and injured 24 others.
The identities of the four others killed in the attack remain unknown.
Gunshots were heard inside the building while security forces surrounded the building, with helicopters also deployed to the scene.
