Sixteen people are still missing at a volcano in central Japan, six days after an eruption that killed 47, authorities said on Friday.

The Nagano prefectural government said rescue operations will continue on mountain trails and areas near the peak of Mount Ontake from Saturday after they were suspended early Friday due to rain.

Authorities warned of mudslides in the region with another tropical cyclone approaching, after the eruption covered the 3,067-metre volcano with ash.

Authorities confirmed 47 people dead, including 11 bodies discovered on Wednesday, in the nation’s worst volcanic disaster in decades.
