The snap elections called by British Prime Minister Theresa May, to strengthen her party's power and give her a direct mandate to take the country through Brexit, concluded on Thursday. Counting began immediately.

There are 650 seats in the House of Commons up for grabs at the election. One party needs to win at least 326 to secure an overall majority.

Conservatives have come first but have lost their overall majority in parliament, near-complete results showed.
