A Sri Lankan journalist was shot at by unidentified persons on Friday night near his residence. He is said to be out of danger.

The Sunday Leader newspaper’s investigative journalist Faraz Shauketaly (52), a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and U.K., was shot in the neck. Speculation in the Sri Lankan media indicates that he could have been targeted for some of his writings, which relate to institutional wrong-doing.

Four years ago, the same newspaper’s editor, Lasantha Wickrematunge, was shot dead by a group of masked men in broad day light.
