Pakistan defence panel slams ceasefire violations

The meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC), chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Thursday strongly condemned the unprovoked firing in the Shakma sector and called for the ceasefire to be maintained in letter and spirit. The meeting, the first such since the new government took over in June, decided that all military and diplomatic channels should be used to prevent ceasefire violations and that Pakistan would also continue to seek dialogue and resolution of all outstanding issues with India peacefully, according to an official statement.

The reconstitution of the DCC into a Cabinet Committee on National Security (CCNS) was, during the meeting, approved.
