Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the petrol crisis would be resolved soon to provide relief to the people of the country.

“All possible measures are being taken to bridge the gap in supply and demand of petrol,” Radio Pakistan reported on Monday, quoting Sharif.

The prime minister is likely to take important decisions in a meeting on Monday to specifically focus on the issue of fuel crisis in the country.

The crisis began about a week ago.

Sharif on Sunday ordered an inquiry into the crisis. After returning from Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Sharif sacked four officials, including Abid Saeed, petroleum secretary, his deputy Naeem Malik and Amjad Janjua, state oil chief.

The crisis has brought down electricity generation by over 2,000 MW, raising the deficit to 7,000 MW. More power plants are likely to suspend their work soon, media reported.

Opposition leader Imran Khan has slammed the government for the crisis.
