Bangladesh war crimes convict dies in prison

Abdul Alim, one of prime war crimes convicts of Bangladesh, sentenced to imprisonment till death for his 1971 offences, died of cancer in Dhaka on Saturday.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on October 9 last year sentenced Abdul Alim to imprisonment till death for crimes against humanity and genocide during the 1971 Liberation War.

The 83-year-old died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of cardiovascular unit of the government SMM University in Dhaka Saturday morning. Director of the hospital Brigadier General Abdul Mazid Bhuiyan said he has been suffering from lung cancer for the past six months and was shifted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to increased respiratory ailments on Tuesday, when he was put on life-support.
