January 07, 2016 01:48 am | Updated September 22, 2016 10:28 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Nepal on Wednesday declared that Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli would visit India in early February in his first official trip abroad after taking over as the Prime Minister last October.

Nepal’s Prime Ministers conventionally visit India on their first foreign trip, but reports had hinted in recent past that Mr.Oli might choose Beijing as his first foreign destination.

The announcement regarding the trip to India was made by Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to a group of media persons in Kathmandu. “The preliminary preparations for the visit have been completed. India will be the first country for the Prime Minister to pay an official visit after assuming the office,” Mr Thapa was quoted saying in the Nepalese media.

Mr.Oli was invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India soon after the former’s election as Prime Minister of Nepal on October 11. It is expected that Mr.Oli will visit China soon after the Delhi visit.
