At least five people were killed and 30 injured including women and children when a blast took place in a crowded food street at Old Anarkali area in the city.
Police said a good number of families were present at the Food Street when a time device exploded on Saturday night.
According to police, the dead include five-year-old girl Sadia.
Two persons died on the spot while the remaining three succumbed to their injuries at Mayo Hospital early on Sunday.
The police said a time-device was planted outside Bokhara restaurant and the blast damaged several food outlets in the street besides vehicles parked at nearby the road.
Rescue 1122 emergency service, police and other civic agencies reached the spot and shifted the injured that include women and children, to Mayo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Services Hospital.
A total 46 injured mostly women have been shifted to the hospitals.
The authorities declared emergency at the major city hospitals.
Police and The Rescue 1122 officials have confirmed five deaths.
The condition of four injured was stated to be critical.
A large number of families dine at the food street every weekend.
“I was dinning with my seven-year-old son and wife when we heard a big bang. My son fell unconscious. Thank God he is alright,” Khalid Shiekh said.
Another eyewitness Ali Raza said he and his friends were waiting their order to be served when the blast occurred.
“Some children were lying injured and we rushed to take them to hospital,” he said.
Lahore’s food outlets which were in the open were closed soon after the blast.
Lahore Police chief Chaudhry Shafiq said a home-made explosive device was used.
It was planted near a deep freezer.
“The bomb was detonated using a timer device,” he said, adding no group had claimed the responsibility.
