One police officer and two election commission employees were killed when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle in northern Afghanistan, police said.
“The incident took place in Khanabad district as they were transferring ballot boxes from the district to Kunduz city,” said Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, the police spokesman for Kunduz province.
“All the ballot boxes were full of votes, but destroyed in the incident,” said Mir Hamza Ahmadzai, head of the provincial election commission office.
162 voter complaints lodged
Afghanistan’s Electoral Complaints Commission has received 162 written complaints containing evidence of voter fraud or other violations.
The complaints in regards to Saturday’s presidential and provincial elections included: lack of access to voting sites, shortages of ballot papers, fake voting cards, and pressure by political and electoral authorities to vote for certain candidates.
Spokesman Nadir Mohseni said they had received 1,269, but only 162 were written and contained evidence.
The rest were made through phone calls, which could not be verified, he said.
