President Barack Obama and Myanmar’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi say they want to see more progress toward reform in the Asian nation.
Mr. Obama says while important changes have been made, both he and Suu Kyi are clear eyed about the challenges remaining.
The two spoke at a news conference Friday after a private meeting at the lakeside home in Yangon where she spent much of her more than two decades in confinement.
Ms. Suu Kyi opened by addressing reports of tension between the U.S. and those working for democratic reforms in Myanmar. She says although they may occasionally view things differently, the bond is very strong.
Ms. Suu Kyi says the reform process is “going through a bumpy patch.” She warned against too much optimism that could lead to complacency.
